I've been seeing this for two years. Now it makes more sense. They've discovered molecular mimicry hotspots in the Spike protein and highlight two examples with tentative high autoimmune potential and implications for understanding prolonged COVID-19 complications. The spike protein shares similarities with 34 different human proteins in amino acid sequences in sets of sixes.
These include proteins found in the thyroid, brain, nose, ear, skin, muscles, heart, blood, nerves, joints, intestines, and many more.
The spike protein may trigger Guillain-Barre syndrome, viral arthritis, immune thrombocytopenic purpura (bleeding), antiphospholipid syndrome, Kawasaki disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, and many others.
This also explains the prolonged elevation in d-dimer I've seen for up to 18 months in over 50 of my patients.
